Most of us have heard of the Florida Everglades, the largest subtropical wilderness park, but did you know that next door to the Everglades is a most picturesque beach? Down in Naples Florida is more than 7 miles of white beaches, challenging golf courses and world class shopping and dinning. The first settlers arrived in Naples in late 1960 in which a river and two inlets are named after, and they developed the area as an abundant game and fishing area. Later in 1887 the group of Kentuckians purchased almost the entire town of Naples . They had constructed a 600 foot pier stretching into the Gulf of Mexico which made it possible for ships to dock. To this day, although not the original, the pier still stands.
If you are a single man looking for some great nightlife that will not leave sitting alone, you really must set your vacation sights on St Petersburg . For a city that has a woman to man ratio of about 3 to 1, this is definitely the place for you. Between the young professionals and artist filling the many new condos, and the sunbathers looking for a yuppie beach, you can have it all. Among the beautiful sights you can visit one of the many beauty schools, the candlelit beer hall, walk the downtown area for shops and cafes.
You can visit Florida people packed and crazy beaches like Daytona, or South Florida, but if you prefer the more pristine, unique and slower paced beaches, you really should look into the Florida panhandle. Here you can relax on some beautiful solitary sand and not worry about having sand kicked in you eyes. From Pensacola to Apalachicola , you are sure to find a beach to grab you interest. The beautiful white sandy beaches boast more than just sunbathing. You will find every type of watersport, nightlife and some of the finest eatery and hotels in the country. If it a step back in time, may I suggest Dog Island . This island is 7 miles long, has one hotel, and no automobiles. In fact the only way to get to this island is by ferry. Or you can choose the private community of Blue Mountain . Here you can rent a home or condo, have your own private beach, or bike ride along the 19 mile paved trail with views of the coastline.
In Miami alone, you can have a difficult time choosing one of the 16 popular beaches. But then why choose, you can vacation at a different beach everyday. The Bal Harbour beach is with it jogging path shaded by palm trees. Walk or ride a bike through the heavily vegetated trails on the southern tip of Key Biscayne in the Bill Baggs Recreation Area. For family sunbathers you must visit Crandon Park where you can swim along the 3 mile beach loaded with life guards, carrousels, playgrounds and picnic areas. If you find yourself a bit on the wild side you should try the far north end of the Haulover Beach where clothing is optional, but toward the south end of the beach you will find shade to picnic, a nine hole golf course, a kite shop with room to fly them and tunnels that connect you to the marina. Windsurfers paradise is at the secluded inlet of the Hobie Beach where you will find all the water sport activities you can think of. Homestead is a quiet little beach that is palm tree shaded and just a nice place to relax as well as North Shore which is a beautifully landscaped boardwalk. The three Miami Beaches offer everything you will need and being connected makes them very convenient. The South Beach with its separate areas for topless bathing and gay and lesbian sunbathers offers many side walk cafes. The Miami Mid Beach with it raised Boardwalk over the dunes. Best of all, the North Beach old-fashion band shell with the adjoining park, a palm shaded grassy area and more sidewalk cafes with a variety of tastes for your appetite.
